JB has spent the last 14 years fueling technology companies where his emphasis has ranged from b2c and b2b digital media to financial technology. In all cases JB has played key roles in steering his companies into new markets with new partners. As CEO of Peerset, JB is responsible for evolving the Company's product set, expanding the marketplace for customers and partners and seeking additional investment capital for future growth.
Before joining Peerset, JB held the position of Senior Vice President at JumpTV (TSX:JTV), a publicly traded company which operates the largest global live and on-demand video publishing network and the second largest company selling publishing platforms to US-based and International sports brands such as Duke University and the NHL. While at JumpTV JB reported to the CEO and President and was accountable for a multi-million dollar revenue business. He managed a 23-person team which was responsible for sports content acquisition, distribution alliances, client relationship management and technology sales.
Prior to JumpTV he contributed to creating the vision for PrimeRevenue, an Atlanta-based supply chain finance platform provider where he joined as Vice President of Business Development reporting to the CEO. He was credited with matching the company with its first institutional investor, Battery Ventures. From 2000 to 2004, JB held various positions within First Data Corporation (NYSE:FDC) where at the time eOne Global was a subsidiary created to exploit opportunities in the emerging payment technology space. The original asset base exceeded $200 million. While with eOne JB provided business advice for several portfolio companies in the consumer ePayments category, built a comprehensive business plan for a new market offering, led the integration team for the acquisition of Financial Supply Chain leader Billingzone, and joined a newly created subsidiary Velosant in the role of VP Business Development.
The first five years of his career included stints at two investment banks, CIBC Wood Gundy in his native hometown of Toronto, and San Francisco-based Robertson Stephens where among other things he was a founding member of the Private Capital Group led by Clark Callander. During his four years with the firm he assisted dozens of entrepreneurs in obtaining venture capital from leading firms around the United States. He also contributed to successful public offerings with digital pioneers such as Excite (merged with @Home) and Sportsline USA (sold to CBS).
JB is a resident of San Francisco and a graduate of Harvard University with a degree in Economics. In his "spare time" he serves as a board member for downtown Oakland-based Lighthouse Community Charter School (www.lighthousecharter.org) and plays not nearly enough tennis and manages and plays for an adult co-ed soccer team.
